Prairie Smoke

The seeds of Prairie Smoke were planted in 1996 by the trio of Erin, Betsy, and Tom when they performed at the Natural Habitat coffeehouse in Winona, MN. Over the next two years, the band name was selected and the group grew from three to five. Whether playing in concert settings such as the Pump House, private party or a festival or outdoor concert series, the band plays a variety of music styles and influences. The music influences come from Americanna, Traditional Folk, Gospel, Bluegrass, Old Time and Celtic Fiddle Tunes. The audience can expect to hear a variety of instruments including fiddle, banjo, guitar, hammered dulcimer, mountain dulcimer, mandoline, bass, flute and penny whistle along with shared vocals and harmonies. The band members are Erin Hussey, Betsy Knowles, Rita Koch-Thometz, Jamie Groth and Tom Walter.
