The Stop and Listen

The Stop and Listen is a Madison, Wisconsin-based old-time string band bringing high-energy performances rooted in America's rich traditional music. Drawing from a deep repertoire of fiddle tunes, jug band songs, country blues, and string band standards, they bring a driving rhythm, tight ensemble playing, extraordinary improvisation and close harmony singing with an expanded sonic palette that gives familiar traditions a distinctive voice.

Fronted by cellist and fiddler Daniel Plane and harmonica player Calvin Woodring, the band brings an uncommon texture to old-time music. With Adam Helt-Baldwin on bass and guitar, and Mike Tiboris on banjo, the result is music that feels deeply rooted in tradition while remaining vibrant, dynamic, and unmistakably their own.
